We are going to have to bring the web server down the night before the electrical shutdown in the Library, which is scheduled for Thursday December 27th. Consequently, the Web server will be unavailable from around midnight on Dec. 26th, until 1pm on the 27th. Previously, we said the web server would only be down between 7am and 1pm on the 27th. Sorry for the confusion. Enjoy your break!

As a part of the JPL surge this past summer, MAC transferred a large portion of the MAC videotape collection to Academic Technology. It was intended that this part of the collection would be available to users via the cablecast system on Campus. However, due to space issues, the collection remains in boxes in AT.
For the short term, these materials are available to users by request. The status of these materials displays in the online catalog as “1 DAY RETRIEVAL.” Faculty and students can request materials at the MAC Front Desk and they will be available to them the following day for viewing or faculty checkout.
A small portion of the collection, namely the most requested materials, remain in MAC and display as “AVAILABLE’ status in the online catalog. These materials are available for immediate viewing or faculty checkout.

Sometime this morning the OASIS Tutorial stopped responding. To fix the problem, we had to create a new temporary address to provide access to OASIS, while we try to determine what’s causing the problems with the official address. We’ve updated the Library web pages with the temporary address. But, please do not bookmark the temporary address, since it is just that, temporary. Accessing OASIS through the temporary address is exactly the same as it used to be. You can still take the quizzes and your student record will be updated properly. We’re curious if there have been other problems with OASIS that we are not aware of. If you’ve tried to access the tutorial and it failed to load, of if you’ve had any other issues with OASIS in the last month or so, please leave a comment with the details below.

We’ve got some work to do on the Library Web server that requires taking it off line beginning Monday morning November 19th at 8am. If all goes well, the server will be back up midday on Monday. But to be safe, we’ve blocked out all day Monday and Tues to complete the work. So it’s conceivable, although unlikely, that the web site will be unavailable until the end of the day Tuesday, November 2oth.
In the meantime the following online Library services will still be available:

All Alexander Street Press databases will be down for routine maintenance and upgrades on Saturday, Nov 10 from approximately 4:00pm-8pm PST.

We are still experiencing some printing problems on the first floor in the Research Assistance area. Some users report slow printing and difficulties printing large documents, especially PDFs. We are working on improving our ability to support our expanded print services on the first floor. Stay tuned.
