Please clarify the response on the last post:

Does this mean that alumni HAVE TO LEAVE BY 9PM on any given night because we are NOT CURRENT SFSU STUDENTS?

That's right. Alumni need to leave Annex I at 9pm, unless they have joined Friends of the Library.

how many alumni use the resources in the library that now, members of the alumni association (the primary advantage as advertised by the alumni association is the access to the library) is suddenly considered a strain so their access to the annex is limited and equal to that of any stranger on the street?

i would really like to know what percentage of the library resources are being used by alumni (is it greater than three percent?). Is it such a strain to allow them access to the annex beyond the regular hours for the general public; and has there been research and estimates completed as to how many in that average percentage would go out of their way to walk to the annex?

if the library is going to limit the primary benefit that members of the sfsu alumni association gives to its previous students, then they need to inform their members/alumni of this new change. it is false and unethical to advertise that alumni have access to that which they do not.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding our access policy for Annex I, and Library access for members of the Alumni Association. The hours of access for alumni and others not currently affiliated with SF State are almost the same as the former Library building hours. We begin checking for current SF State ID's during evening and weekend hours, the same times that we formerly had only the John F. True Computer Lab (which was limited to current SF State students at all times) and the quiet study area (which had priority access for current students) open for extended hours/24 hours during the regular semesters. In the few weeks Library Annex I has been open, we have had almost full capacity of current students during evening and weekend hours. For the duration of the fall semester, we are keeping our access policy to check for ID cards of currently affiliated San Francisco State University students, faculty and staff after designated hours. However, we will assess this policy as we go forward, and will certainly consider extending after hours access to alumni if we can do so without disadvantaging current students. In the meantime, members of the Alumni Association retain all the Library access privileges they have had in the past, including borrowing privileges and the ability to request books from the closed Library building.

Information about Library Access during the Library expansion and renovation project is available on the Alumni Association Membership Benefits web page (http://www.sfsu.edu/~alumni/membershipbenefits.html) and on the New Library web site: http://www.sfsu.edu/newlibrary/

Hi I was in the Annex over the weekend. Is there no janitorial service cuz it was absolutely disgusting in there. Trash cans overflowing, no TP in the restrooms, etc. And the grossness in the bathroom was quite unpleasant.

We know this is a huge problem and have requested that more janitorial service be provided on the weekends.

While the comment above says that it is heated, the building is still so big that it's hard to actually make it warm. I was really chilly in there. If you are a person that gets cold easily, bring a jacket, a scarf, and maybe some gloves.

We are working with the contractor to resolve the heating issues in Library Annex 1. Thanks for letting us know that it is still a problem!

is there plugs for laptop users? is food allowed inside?

Yes, there are a lot of plugs for laptop users in the study area. Wireless too. Snacks and beverages are allowed in the study area, but not at the computers.
