I am a prospective student and I find this to be outrageous. So your saying I am not going to be able to view my soon to be school library? This is completely wrong and there should be something done about it. You can't just shut off the whole library. I understand that there is some construction going on but there should be some sort of way the library could remain open. I am happy I did my research because if I hadn't none about this sooner, I would have been extremely dissapointed.

This is ridiculous. This is a university and we are supposed to deal with limited library access for 3 years? Prospective students, both graduate and undergraduate should know this. This should be on the front page of the SFSU web page. Isn't there a better way of dealing with a construction project that would not so severely limit student access??? Truly outrageous...

I just recently learned about this and was a little shocked. Why weren't students more involved in the process of how the library would work? Or what it would look like? Why hasn't the school worked harder to make sure more students know what is going on? Have you even told the prospective students they won't have a library for 3 years? I doubt it...

So some students have brought up this idea of putting a bar/cantina on top of the library so that people can enjoy books, drinks, and the spectacular view. Also then students could enjoy a safe on-campus nightlife. Is there any way this can become incorperated into the new building plans?

Responding to the question, what will happen to the 24 hour quiet room. We will provide an extended hours study and computer space in the new Library Annex 1 in the Fall. We are not sure if it will be 24 hours or not, but it will definitely be open late hours, perhaps until 2am.

[...] J. Paul Leonard Library Goes Web 2.0 May 4, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized — cnoyes @ 11:43 pm Interestingly, I have heard the rumors that the J. Paul Leonard Library located at San Francisco State University is closing. Not forever, but for the next three years. It is scheduled to reopen in 2011. At first I thought, “Well that doesn’t help me. I am graduating in 2008.” However, I researched the rumor a bit further to discover that it is quite fascinating how the library will work during the closure. The library itself is going to further transition into the wonderful world of Web 2.0 using online interactivity. “Books and media will be available by online request for pickup within 24 hours at a distribution desk in the HSS building. Research assistance will be available at both locations and by phone, instant messaging or e-mail.” This is how it should be! It saves time for the students by expediting student research. Check out the blog that has been dedicated to the project: Library Project About to Begin [...]
